Comparison of public and private schools by institutions culture

Every institution with an individual has a culture. In this context, schools also have their own cultures. There is an undoubted relationship between individuals' adoption of the institution they work at and their commitment to the vision and mission of the institution and the progress and achievement of the institutions. The institutional culture, which is the most important and active part of the education system, affects the institution and its employees, as well as the society, which is an upper system. The most important and prominent feature of a school is that the raw material it works on is the people coming from and going to the society. Therefore, institutional culture becomes even more more important in schools. In this case, it is significant to determine the corporate culture in public and private schools, which are among the most important institutions of our country, and to compare these schools with each other, in order to clarify the situation we are in. In this sense, this study aims to describe the institutional culture in public and private schools and make a comparison between them. Interview technique was used in the research. The research data were obtained as a result of catechetic interview questions, which include the dimensions of the organizational culture, face to face with the related participants. The data collection tool utilized for this study consists of a structured interview form. The interview form used here was prepared by using the "organizational culture inventory" developed by Cooke and Rousseau. In the research, 24 teachers and 6 administrators working in some public and private schools in Antalya were interviewed. According to the results of the research, the major problem of private school teachers is that there is no job guarantee and occupational law compared to teachers in official schools, and therefore the uncertainty they live with. So, this poses the biggest obstacle to the internalization of school culture. Nonetheless, there are significant deficiencies in the establishment of school culture in public schools compared to private schools. As a result of this research, differences were determined in the findings we obtained according to the corporate culture perceptions of administrators and teachers working in public and private schools. Based on these differences, it is thought that it would be beneficial to compare the general goals of the schools with the needs of the staff working in the schools and to contribute to the applications in the field of school management, by describing the institutional culture in the public and private schools.
