Abstract (EN)
Purpose: Kidney injury is common in premature infants. We concidered markers which rising in renal injury earlier than creatinine, for early diagnosis and treatment of acute renal disease. NGAL is a new marker to detect early stage in acute kidney injury. In our study, we aimed to compare the renal function in premature infants with and without RDS by measuring urine NGAL levels.Materials and Methods: In this study were followed in our clinic, 51 premature infants which gestational age was 28-34 weeks.Patients divided into two group;Group 1: Group of patients who developed RDS (21 cases),Group 2: Control group who didn?t develop RDS (30 cases),Clinical, laboratory features and postnatal complications of patients were recorded. 1st and 7th days of urinary NGAL values were determined by ELISA method. Statistical analysis using SPSS 16.0 was performed using the software program.Findings: In our study, urinary NGAL levels between patients with and without RDS were not significantly different statistically. 1th days of urine NGAL was found to be higher than from 7th days value. Results: In our study, urinary NGAL levels rise in the 1st and 7th day not been detected. We could not identfy if NGAL measurement is valuable to the early detection of acute kidney injury. This study must be supported by similar studies on larger series.Key words: NGAL, RDS, acute kidney injury, premature
