Özet (EN)
Purpose: To analyze multimodal imaging data in Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) patients, investigate the relationship of these data with visual acuity, and compare the obtained data with age and gender matched healthy volunteers. Materials and methods: Twenty-five eyes of 25 patients aged 18 years and older with RP who were followed up at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital and 25 eyes of two age- and gender-matched healthy volunteers were included in the study. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), detailed biomicroscopic examination, fundus examination with pupil dilation followed by color fundus photography, Fundus Autofluorescence imaging (FAF), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA), Enhanced Dept Imaging (EDI) OCT examinations were performed in both groups. Superficial Capillary Plexus (SCP) network densities, Deep Capillary Plexus (DCP) network densities, Foveal Avascular Zone (FAZ) parameters, foveal, parafoveal and perifoveal 4-quadrant macular thickness measurements from OCTA images of the study groups, central subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) from EDI OCT images and choroidal vascular index (CVI) data using the Image J program were obtained and compared. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the study groups in terms of age and gender (p<0.05). BCVA was found to be lower in the RP group (0.38 ± 0.31 LogMAR) compared to the control group (0.00 ± 0.00 LogMAR) (p<0.05). In the measurements of central foveal thickness (CFT), parafoveal and perifoveal macular thickness, significant thinning was detected in all quadrants in the patient group (p<0.05 for all values). Among the study groups, SCP and DCP network densities obtained from OCTA images were found to be significantly lower in the RP group (p<0.05). Again, among the FAZ parameters obtained from OCTA images, the vascular density around the FAZ was found to be low in the patient group (p<0.05) and was found to be negatively correlated with BCVA (r: -0.463, p<0.05). Central SFCT was observed to be significantly decreased in the patient group compared to the control group (p<0.05). While a significant increase was observed in CVI measurements in the RP group compared to the control group (p<0.05), this increase was found to be positively correlated with BCVA (r:0.557, p<0.05). Conclusion: In our study, thinning of macular thickness was observed in the RP group in the MFK, parafoveal and perifoveal 4 quadrants, while thinning of SCP and DCP mesh densities was observed. While a statistically significant decrease was detected only in PHASE FD measurements among FAZ parameters, a negative correlation was found between FAZ FD and BCVA. In the measurements made from EDI images, a thinning in the central SFCT was detected in the RP group, while in the CVI measurements, an increase was detected, and this increase was found to be correlated with BCVA. Data show us that damage to vascular structures in RP disease plays a role in the pathophysiology of the disease. We think that multimodal imaging data will be useful in determining the degree of damage in RP and in monitoring the disease.
