Evaluation of the suitability of the vocabulary in Rıfat Ilgaz's children's novels for Turkish course outcomes

Rıfat İlgaz is very important in Turkish literature. He also draws attention with his works written for children. Considering the number of copies printed, it is understood that the books reached a remarkable amount of readership. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of the vocabulary in Rıfat Ilgaz's children's novels for Turkish course goals. The research was designed in accordance with qualitative research methods. In this study conducted within the scope of qualitative research, document analysis technique was used. In this context, the author's pieces titled "Bacaksız Kamyon Sürücüsü, Bacaksız Macera Peşinde (Sigara Kaçakçısı), Bacaksız Okulda, Bacaksız Paralı Atlet, Bacaksız Tatil Köyünde, Kumdan Betona, Küçükçekmece Okyanusu, Cankurtaran Yılmaz, Öksüz Civciv, Halime Kaptan " were examined in terms of word. Within the context of vocabulary elements, proverbs, idioms, reduplications, aphorisms, set phrases, onomatopoeia and local words are also dealed. These words items are indictated in the findings section in tables along with their frequencies. As a result of the study, it was understood that the most frequently identified vocabulary elements in these works were reduplications and idioms. Proverbs are present in some works but not in other Works. In addition to these, aphorisms are the least detected vocabulary element in his works. The author's novels are suitable for 3rd and 4th grades only according to the learning outcomes of proverbs and idioms among the primary school grade levels in the Turkish Language Curriculum. The examined works meet the relevant outcome in terms of the use and diversity of idioms. The analysed works provide the relevant objectives in terms of the use and diversity of idioms but it is unsatisfactory in terms of proverbs. Other vocabulary elements identified in the works can be used in Turkish lessons for the development of children's language repertory. Additionally, these vocabulary items can contribute to the Turkish education of first-grade students through enriched teaching methods.
