Abstract (EN)

As an innovative and foresighted musician, Richard Wagner thought that something was missing in the operas of the period, and he brought various concepts such as gesamtkunstwerk, Wagner tuba, leitmotif, and endless melody to the music, arguing that operas should be more holistic, not just based on the talents of singers. In addition to these innovations, by designing a new concert hall, he aimed to convey his operas to the audience with the most perfect acoustics and visuals. By using all these concepts the most intensely in the Nibelung Ring cycle, he aimed to convey the use of leitmotifs, that he defended and pioneered to the audience throughout the narrative of the story. This study consists of three parts. In the first part, Richard Wagner's life and musical thoughts are included. While the second part focuses on the leitmotif technique and the Nibelung Ring cycle, the horn solos in the cycle are discussed in the last part. In addition to solos such as "Siegfried", "Nature motif", "Hagen's Day", which are important for horn players and frequently asked in orchestral exams, other horn solos in the leitmotiv technique are discussed and it is aimed to convey the development of opera to the players in a narrative context throughout the study. In this way, it is aimed to increase the musical dominance of the horn players who listen to or play the Ring cycle by raising awareness.
