Abstract (EN)

Aim (objective): Acute rhinosinusitis is an endemic health problem which commonly occurs in all around the world as well as in our country, with the prevalence that changes between %6 and 15. The aim of this study is to define the frequent signs and symptoms in patients prediagnosed with acute rhinosinusitis and to determine their sensitivity to acute rhinosinusitis. Method: Patients who referred to Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases Policlinics of Adnan Menderes University Practice and Research Hospital from 1 August 2017 to 31 January 2018 and whose prediagnose was considered as acute rhiosinusitis were included in this study. After scanning records of all patients, 121 patients who have complete history records and physical examination findings were accepted to study. At the same time as a physical examination their ear-nose-throat findings were obtained. In nasal examination records of patients included in the study, both anterior rhinoscopy and nasal endoscopy evaluation was conducted. Findings: 64 of the 121 patients in the study were male (%52,9).As the average age was calculated as 30,5 ± 20,2, the patients' ages differed between 2 and 79 years. Most common complaints of the 121 patients included in the study were nasal congestion, nasal flow and post-nasal drainage and on the other hand mucosal hyperemia, purulent nasal flow and inferior concha hypertrophy are the physical examination findings detected mostly. Regarding the diagnose distribution, the most common one of the patients included in the study is rhinosinusitis ( 94 patients %77,7). Among the patients diagnosed with rhinosinusitis, the most significant referring complaints are nasal congestion (74 patients %78,7) and post-nasal drainage (76 patients %80,9). Post-nasal purulent drainage (83 patients %88,3) and purulent intranasal drainage (74 patients % 78,7 ) are most frequent physical examination findings of the patients diagnosed with acute rhinosinisitis. Conclusion: Nasal congestion and post-nasal drainage are most frequent referring complaints in patients diagnosed with acute rhinosinusitis. Post-nasal purulent drainage and intranasal purulent drainage are most detected physical examination findings of acute rhinosinusit patients. Intranasal purulent drainage and post-nasal purulent drainage are differential characteristics for acute rhinosinusitis and their respective sensitivity percentages are found as %79 and %88.
