Abstract (EN)

In this Study Resilience of students in 9th and 10th grade of Secondary School who are under risk, is evaluated based on various variables. The students who are being educated at Secondary Schools of İstanbul Province Maltepe Borough and who have low socioeconomic level and additionally who had destructive life styles and who were willing to respond data collection tools used in this study, were selected as samples of this study. Scale parameters were applied to 468 students, and total 118 students comprising 60 females and 58 males, were sampled who checked at least one of the selections as a second risk factor such as premature birth; having repeated a grade level; having a perpetrator father or mother; having father or mother with a chronic disease; not having rendered sufficient health services; existance of an individual who requires special education in the family; having a friend group who use alchohol and drugs; obligation of working while going to school; having heavy problems like violence, terror, theft within the living environment or excessive day of absence in the school which are added in determination list besides the main poverty factor. Within the scope of this study California Resilience Evaluation Scale (High School Version), Perceived Social Support Scale, Risk Factors Determination List and Personal Information Form are utilized as Data Collection Tools.Dependent variables of the study comprised resilience of the students and independent variables of the study comprised gender, having dead or alive parents, having married or divorced parents, academical success, condition of having social support from other members of the family, status of close friends, past destructive life. This study is performed with descriptive survey methods. For statistical analyses the normality of the sampling is controlled via Levene F test and non-parametric test statistics are used when significant difference is observed. Accordingly, Mann Whitney U-test is used in unrelated sampling in order to test the variance between binary groups in which normal distribution could not be accomplished and Kruskal Wallis H- test is used for groups more than two. t-test is used in binary groups amongst independent groups in order to evaluate the significance of the score differences between the groups in which normal distribution is observed, and one way analyses of variance (ANOVA) is used for groups more than two and when the difference is found to be significant Scheffe test which has high sensitivity amongst post-hoc tests, is used in order to determine between which groups such difference exists. Multiple linear regression analysis is used in order to determine the relation between the resilience scores and social support scores and in order to test whether the relevant independent variables predict the resilience or not.According to the results obtained in this study there is a significant relation between the reselience performance and the status of the family whether divorced or married, participation in in-school activities, academic success and according to the analysis perfomed on resilience scores and perceived social support dimensions. Relative Priority is given to protective relations and high expectations at school amongst the social support dimensions and family has the priory in sub-scales excluding protective relations between friend groups. In general these results indicate the importance of the family support in development of resilience .Furthermore, when the resilience gender variables are analysed a significant difference is not observed with respect to total scores however, females got higher scores than males when it is analysed based on all sub-scale scores. It is determined that having distant relatives, having sister or brothers or their quantity, number of close friends do not have a significant affect on resilience .
