Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the prevalence and etiological factors of MIH in 9-year-old children in Rize and to evaluate its effects on oral health-related quality of life. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 7 randomly determined primary schools of Rize. Third grade students who are 9 years old (n=692) were enrolled into this study. Oral examinations of the children were evaluated using the DMFT/dmft and OHI-S indices according to WHO standards. EAPD criteria were used for MIH diagnosis. CPQ8-10 was used to evaluate the oral health-related quality of life. Results: In 12.5 % of the study group MIH with varying severity was detected. In the presence of a severely affected permanent first molar, it was observed that the likelihood of involvement in both other permanent first molars and incisors was increased (p<0.001, p=0.013). A statistically significant difference was found between the severity of MIH and DMFT/DM values (p<0.001, p=0.003). A statistically significant relationship was found between the emotional well-being domain of the CPQ8-10 and MIH (p=0.019). It was seen that all areas of CPQ8-10 had a significant relationship with dmft/dm values (p≤0.001). Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, it was determined that MIH was effective on the children's oral health and its related quality of life. It was concluded that it is necessary to raise the awareness of families in order to prevent the negative effects of MIH. Key words: MIH, tooth decay, hypomineralization, quality of life.
