Abstract (EN)

The focus of this study is the lieder of German composer Robert Schumann. In the first part of the study the life and work of the composer was portrayed. In the second part, the compositional style of R. Schumann was examined under the subheadings 'Piano Music' and 'Symphonies and Concertos'. The third part includes the historical development of lied until the time of R. Schumann in chronological order. In the fourth part, in which the lied conception of R. Schumann was examined, firstly the characteristics of the Schumann lieder were explained, after that Schumann's Year of Song, which is an important part of Schumann's biography, is clarified, and finally the poets with whom R. Schumann collaborated were laid together. The focus of the fifth part is the song cycle Op. 39 Liederkreis. In this part, the song cycle is also analysed. In this study, it has been aimed to understand better R. Schumann's lied conception and the technical and musical characteristics of his lieder. The author of this study aims that this study will serve as a useful guide to all students and professional musicians who will interpret the lieder of R. Schumann.
