One of the main reasons why the Roman Empire left such a lasting impression in ancient times and throughout history is its incomparable legions and army structure. The Roman imperial legions have always been mentioned as a perfectly functioning machine and have been accepted as an ideal army system. But contrary to what thought, this military system has faced many problems from time to time. The army structure, which started to corrupt in the late republic period, gained a new form with the reforms of Augustus. This golden age for the army ended with the death of Augustus.
