Özet (EN)
Throughout history, marriage has played a critical role in shaping the family phenomenon, which is the basic building block of society. In this context, marriage represents not only Decoupling between individuals, but also an expanding family structure. However, in addition to marriages that are considered only as the union of two individuals, there have also been marriages performed in accordance with certain goals and objectives in history. Especially in Ancient Times, political marriages performed for diplomatic purposes such as regulating interstate relations, territorial acquisition, confirming peace agreements or espionage were quite common. In this context, the Roman Empire has been a state that has recognized the importance of political marriages throughout its long and impressive history and adopted this method. The social structure of Rome had marked class distinctions from the first day of its establishment. These distinctions were also reflected in the marriage rights of individuals; individuals from certain classes were legally restricted from marrying. The Romans shaped their understanding of family and marriage with this perspective by taking into account the social and legal status of individuals. However, the changing and developing Roman administration has also adopted using marriage as a tool of political power. Marriage has become a tool for strategic purposes such as gaining political power and forming alliances during these periods. This study aims to investigate the political marriages in the Roman Imperial Period, as well as the place of women in marriage, their role in social and political life, society's expectations of women, and how women are used as a political tool. Keywords: Rome, Political, Marriage, Empire.
