Expedition organization of the Roman eastern frontier units (1st century BC-3rd century AD)

Within the scope of the policy of strengthening the Euphrates frontier, the intellectual foundations of which were laid during the Parthian and Armenian campaigns led by Corbulo during the reign of Nero, and which was put into practice during the Flavian period, a series of legionary garrisons and auxiliary fortresses were established in the Roman provinces of Syria, Commagene, Cappadocia and Armenia Minor and on the Pontic coast, and new military units were deployed to the region. This study examines the campaign organization of these military units in the light of ancient sources, epigraphic, archaeological, and partly numismatic data and modern literature. In this context, the main and secondary roads used by the Roman frontier troops for operations, as well as the strategic transit routes, the supply of necessary weapons and equipment along with supplies and food, the supply of livestock for different purposes, and the measures for the hygiene and health problems of crowded military units have been revealed in full detail in this study.
