Abstract (EN)

For Roman society, adoption symbolized above all the idea of the continuation of the family. In the same logic, Emperors are also adopted by adoption; It was built for various purposes such as maintaining the name of the family, therefore the country, and increasing the power ofthe state. To chronologically list the heyday of the adopted emperors, the first name was Nerva Caesar Augustus, the first emperor elected by the Senate. He took office at the age of65 during a mixed period between 96 and 98, when financial difficulties were experienced, and it was stated that his greatest shortcoming was his authority over the army. Trojan (Traianus Divi), who was the emperor between 98 and 117, is one of the most appreciated rulers. He was an emperor who brought Pax Romana to the widest borders, contributed to social life and shared the spoils of war with the people. Hadrianus (Hadrianus Augustus) was an emperor who was an emperor in 117-138 years, with a poetic spirit, who loved art and literature. Trojan, who goes out on trips very often, conquered the lands; He is a person whois politically and economically dependent on the empire, trying to turn it into productive geographies. The empire of Antoninus Pius is between 138-161 years. He is one of the rare emperors who managed to rule the empire peacefully without leaving Italy. In this period, when there was no war and uprising, he cared about the rule of law and defended the voting rights of the emancipated slaves. He left a rich treasury, an important legal principle such as the presumption of innocence, and a flourishing country to subsequent emperors. We're up to four emperors, but let's take a breather here. Although his name is not mentioned in the "Five Good Emperors", Lucius Verus, who ruled between 161-169, brought the concept of "two- headed government / two emperors" to world history for the first time in the Roman period, when he came to power with his half-brother Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius reigned from 161-180, and when he died at the age of 58, he was commemorated with his important victories. Marcus Aurelius is also known for his stoic interest in philosophy. His work"Meditations" is one of the most important sources of information on this subject. The deathof Marcus Aurelius, who died in 180, when the threat of the Germanic races increased, has been accepted by many historians as the end of the "Great Roman Peace (Pax Romana) periodand the beginning of the Decline of the Western Roman Empire." Considering the examples in the history of the Roman Empire, adoption by testament; It is possible to say that it was a method to point out the successors of the emperors and it was used as a tool to achieve political goals.
