The relationship between women and religion in novels: The example of Samiha Ayverdi and Şükûfe Nihal

As a way of reading the social, novels are an important source. The author carries her own world of thought, mentality and history to writing. The writing is the subject of research as a data full of signs. In this thesis, the novels of Samiha Ayverdi and Şükufe Nihal, who lived in the same date range, were discussed in the context of the relationship between women and religion, using the semiotics method. The language used by both authors, their perspectives on society and women were examined and compared. Ayverdi's sufism and Nihal's closeness to the secular environment were also reflected in their novels, and both authors created their ideal woman in parallel with their own view of life. On the other hand, both authors defined their unwanted women as western wannabe women. This view reflects the consensus of both women writers.
