Abstract (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze and compare methods of representation and imagery used in several program music examples in the Romantic period. In the first part of this thesis, in which literature review is used as a method, the definition and elements of the 19th century Romantic movement are explained, and the effects of the Romantic movement on music are emphasized. In the second part, the structure of the program music is explained, the character part is defined and the descriptive elements in music (tonality, rhythm, instrumentation, dynamics, etc.) are expressed. In the third chapter, the selected works of the composers who worked on programmed music in the Romantic Period were mentioned and short analyzes were made on the works. At the end of the research, it was determined that there is a similarity in the techniques and structure of the music made by different composers but depicting the same element. In addition, it has been observed that the program music has different types and characters, and the method of composing them according to the depicted element is also affected.
