The effect of mindfulness, psychological well-being and relational humor on relationship satisfaction in romantic relationships

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of mindfulness, psychological well-being and relational humor on relationship satisfaction in individuals with romantic relationships. In the study, it was also examined whether relationship satisfaction, mindfulness, psychological well-being and relational humor differ according to the sociodemographic variables of these individuals. A quantitative research design was used in this study. As the research model, the relational survey model was preferred. The sample of the study consists of a total of 323 people, 236 women and 87 men, between the ages of 18-50, who are in a romantic relationship. Personal information form, mindfulness scale in romantic relationships, psychological well-being scale, relational humor inventory and relationship satisfaction scale were used in the questionnaire. According to the data obtained from the research; It was determined that there was a weakly positive and significant relationship between relationship satisfaction, mindfulness, psychological well-being and relational humor (p<0.01). When relational humor, relationship satisfaction and psychological well-being were compared according to gender, there was no significant difference (p>0.05). When the levels of mindfulness were compared according to gender, it was seen that there was a significant difference (p<0.05). It was found that the level of mindfulness of female participants was higher than that of male participants. Relational humor levels show a significant difference according to the duration of association (p<0.05). It was determined that the average of individuals with less than 1 year and 1-3 years of coexistence was higher than those who had been with their partner for more than 6 years. Relational humor and relationship satisfaction levels show a significant difference according to the types of association (p<0.05). It was determined that the mean of relationship satisfaction of the individuals with dating type was lower than the individuals whose relationship type was married, beloved and engaged. As a result, in our research; A significant relationship was found between relationship satisfaction, mindfulness, psychological well-being and relational humor. The data obtained from the research and the results of the analysis were discussed within the scope of the relevant literature and various suggestions were made for future research.
