Abstract (EN)
Rosaceae family is a large plant family with 3,000 - 4,000 species. The genus Rosaceae is divided into four subfamilies: Amygdaloideae, Maloideae, Rosoideae and Spiraeoideae. Members of the Solanaceae family include about 90 genera and 2500 species. While Rosa canina is known as rose hip, Lycium barbarum is used as goji berry. Rosa canina is consumed because of its nutritional nature and rich in vitamin C. Lycium barbarum is used as a slimming tea and for therapeutic purposes. There is nostudy of DNA-protective activity of Rosa canina and Lycium barbarum species in the literature. Methanol extracts of Rosa canina and Lycium barbarum plants were prepared. Antimicrobial effects of these extracts against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacteria and DNA protective activitiy were studied. The antimicrobial activity was tested with MIC and Disk Diffusion method. DNA-protecting activity was studied using H2O2 and UV-C using pBR322 plasmid DNA. Interms of antimicrobial, the extracts did not show activity in both parameters, but they showed a high activity in terms of DNA protective activity
