Abstract (EN)
Tourmaline is a complex silicate mineral which has great variety in color and composition. The purpose of this study is to investigate the luminescence properties using cathodoluminescence (CL) and thermoluminescence (TL) techniques and optical absorption spectrum of the pink tourmaline from USA (California). The luminescence properties of pink turmaline samples were analysed by using cathodoluminescence (CL) and thermoluminescence (TL) techniques. Before recording the luminescence measurements, EDX analysis were taken and the presence of the basic elements ( Na, Al, Si, O) in the material have been determined. Although broad emission bands in different wavelengths have been observed in CL measurements recorded at room temperature main a broad band, which is between 525 nm and 640 nm, are clearly seen in the spectrum. After the samples were irritated with a dose rate which is about 30 Gy / min, TL spectra were taken from the temperature range of 40-400 ? C at different heating rates which are from 2 to 10 ? C/min. A main glow curve was observed at 158 ? C. Optical absorption measurements show that there are a broad absorption band appeared at about 400 and 500 nm. A model was developed for the interpretation of experimental data obtained at the study and the results are given based on this model.
