This thesis aims to contribut introducinge rudimental drumming technique, which is included in percussion curriculum in many countries, in Turkey; informing performers of percussion about this subject; and to the use of rudimental drumming for pedagogical purposes by explaining practicing techniques of the Essential Rudiments. Rudimental drumming technique, which has been accepted and developed in many countries, especially in Switzerland, has continued its development from the middle ages until today. Rudimental drumming, which was originated mainly to convey military commands to the army by drumming and to accompany folk dances has become an indispensable part of solo drumming recitals today, and gained an important place in percussion education. Jesse SIEFF's work, Chopstakovich, has an important place in the snare drum repertoire as it is one of the rare advanced works that includes both the classical drumming and rudimental drumming techniques together. In the first part of this thesis, the history, development and types of snare drums, and stick grips techniques are reviewed. Then in the second part, the history of the rudimental drumming, differences between countries in terms of its practice, the National Association of Rudimental Drummers and Percussive Arts Society, which contributed significantly to the development of the Rudimental drumming, and the Essential Rudiments published by them are examined, and the practicing techniques of these rudiments are explained. Finally, in the third part of the thesis, the work titled Chopstakovich, which is one of the important works of the repertoire, and in which the rudimental drumming and classical drumming are used together, is studied; the terms of rudimental drumming and drumstick movements within the work, are examined; and benetifs of practicing the Essential Rudiments, published by NARD and PAS associations, to the performance this work are explained.
