Abstract (EN)
This thesis explores Russian-speaking children's difficulties at school and in Turkish society. This thesis also studies Russian-speaking mothers who moved to Turkey as the mother-children topic is interconnected. For this purpose, the reasons for the relocation of Russian-speaking mothers to Turkey, their educational and work experience, the study of the Turkish language, and their adaptation were considered. Then, the topics concerning the Russian-speaking children of these mothers were studied as they are the main subjects of this work. To investigate these children's experiences at school and in Turkish society, the criteria for choosing a school, the adaptation of first-generation migrant children, relations between teachers, classmates, Russian-speaking children, and their mothers, the study and use of Russian and Turkish in a multicultural family; the influence of languages on the academic performance of Russian-speaking children, the role of parents in the education of these children; identification of Russian-speaking children, ways of maintaining Russian identity in Turkey and children's plans concerning study, work and country of residence were examined. Qualitative semi-structured online interviews with Russian-speaking mothers were conducted to study the educational and integration experience of Russian-speaking children in Turkish society. In total, 15 mothers took part in the study, and 21 children were examined. Thus, this study is a scientific work that can fill the gap in the literature regarding Russian-speaking children in Turkey since this thesis presents a general description of children and the difficulties they face in educational and integration processes that require special attention for further study and problem-solving.
