The reflections of cultural and lingual differences between Russian and Turkish to the translation of literary work (Resat Nuri Guntekin- Calikusu) (The Wren)

The aim of our dissertation, titled as "The Reflections of Cultural and Lingual Differences Between Russian and Turkish to the Translation of Literary Work" (Reşat Nuri Güntekin), is to reveal cultural and lingual differences by comparing the languages of Turkish and Russian through translations and using Reşat Nuri Güntekin's work, Çalıkuşu (The Wren). The dissertation aims also to examine the relationships between Russia and Turkey in all phases with emphasis on the similarities and differences between these two cultures and to analyze the litrary work that has been translated from Turkish into Russian. In the light of our literature review, it is remarkable that while political and economic comparisons have been made, linguistic and cultural comparisons have not been made yet. Therefore, in this regard, the purpose of this thesis tends towards comparing the worldviews of Turkish and Russian societies through the language and culture. Understanding the worldview of a foreign society is an important element for expert translators who provide the communication and interaction between different nations entirely. Through the translator and literary work, it is intended to explore Turkish and Russian cultures and the cultural and linguistic features of the two countries which have been in communication throughout the history. In this study, we hope to find answers to the following questions: At what time do Turkish-Russian relationships date back to? The comparison of the development of Turkish and Russian relationships and languages up to now? What are the similarities and differences between the Turkish and Russian Languages in terms of linguistics? What are the similarities between Turkish and Russian cultures and conventions? Can we compare the same works in Russian and Turkish in terms of linguistics and culture, and reach a conclusion? What are the reasons of the admiration of Russian society for Turkish society? Why has Istanbul been through history a historical city of destiny for Russia and the Russian society? Elaborating differences between these two cultures can only be possible by via translations. Therefore, our main issue in the study is the culture transfer. This thesis aims to examine the Russian and Turkish cultural relationship. In these selected works, how did the cultural reflections occur? Given that translation is a transfer of culture, one of the questions that we are looking for an answer is whether the translator, as a culture expert, is affected by the "para culture", "dia culture" or "idioculture" while translating the literal works. Additionally, this study has put together the following two fields: translations studies and cultural studies. Moreover, it has been elaborated on the cultural interactions in novel translations. In our study, how Turkish and Russian cultures have encountered in the novel "Çalıkuşu" (The Wren), the discourse closeness and variance has been examined based on translation.
