Russia's Israeli policy in the Syrian civil war

Israel has an important place in Russia's Middle East policy. Although Russia's relations with Israel started with the establishment of Israel, diplomatic relations were disconnected between the two countries in 1967 and re-established in 1991. In the 2000s, Russia's focusing on the Middle East policy and the Israeli state's progressing in military and technical fields were important in the development of relations between the two countries.With Putin's coming into power, the importance of Israel in Russian foreign policy has increased even more. The Arab revolts that started in the Middle East in 2011 turned into a civil war in Syria and Russia's support for the Syrian regime resulted in Russia's intervention in Syria. The aim of this study is to examine Russia's Israeli policy during the Syrian civil war. In the first part of the study, which consists of three parts, were investigated the factors that determine the Israeli policy of Russia. In the second part, were explained Russia-Israel relations between 2010-2015 in line with these factors, and in the third part, was examined the Israeli policy of Russia after 2015. In this context, have been followed the developments in Russia-Israel relations since the beginning of the Syrian civil war. As a result of the study, are revealed the factors that shape the Israeli policy of Russia and the effects of these factors on Russia's Israeli policy during the Syrian civil war.
