Reading the Russia-Ukraine war through the political economy of the media: Samples from capital and ekonomist

This study examines how the Russia-Ukraine War was reflected in two Turkish economic magazines, Capital and Ekonomist. The war as a significant issue in international communication, is analyzed within the frameworks of Modern World-Systems Theory and the Critical Political Economy. The aim of the study is to reveal how the war was evaluated by capital-owning class in Turkey and how these evaluations were conveyed through economic magazines, based on the theoretical framework. In this context, news articles, opinion columns, and interviews published in both magazines between February and August 2022 were reviewed. These texts were analyzed using qualitative analysis methods, specifically through the technique of textual analysis. The study not only focuses on the representation of the war in economic magazines but also sheds light on the reflections of global power asymmetries in the media. In this respect, the study aims to examine how capital-centered discourses are reproduced through a current crisis.
