Abstract (EN)

Murathan Mungan?s novel Şairin Romanı (The Novel of the Poet) is based to a certain degree upon dreams. Thus, the dream-texts function as the most relevant narrative units of the novel. In this study ten dream-texts belonging to the most important characters of the novel are analyzed according to four different theories / approaches. Genette?s and Bakhtin?s approaches help us to see how the dream-texts function as the main constituents and nodes determining the flow of the text in terms of space and time. Following Freud?s interpretations of dreams we can see how the author built up the subconcious of his characters. Todorov?s theory of genres helps us to understand the role of the fantastic features in the novel, in this case the role of the ten dream-texts and their contribution to the atmosphere of the whole. The study also aims to show that different approaches of analysis complete each other and give us the possibility of a deeper understanding of the text and of the relations among the different levels / layers of the text.
