Abstract (EN)

This thesis investigated Rytov variance derivation and propagation of sinusoidal laser beams in jet engine turbulence. The study aimed to understand the behavior of sinusoidal beams under turbulence-induced optical distortions and their impact on the performance of laser-based electro-optical systems. Rytov variance has been employed as a quantitative metric to measure turbulence strength. Using theoretical modeling and experimental validation, the research evaluated the effects of intense turbulence in the jet engine exhaust region on the phase front, intensity distribution, and focusing capabilities of sinusoidal beams. The findings offered recommendations for optimizing directed infrared countermeasures (DIRCM), laser designators, and rangefinder systems. This work aimed to enhance the resilience and effectiveness of these systems, particularly in complex and high-risk operational environments.
