Comparison of patients treated with fixed orthodontic treatment and clear aligners in terms of root resorption and periodontal status changes

The aim of modern orthodontics has been summarized as acceptable facial aesthetics and the creation of the best occlusal relationship. This requires positioning the crown of each tooth in the appropriate position for optimum function and appearance. Andrews has developed a series of orthodontic brackets that form a system he calls the 'Straightwire bracket'. Bracket slots are designed to be placed at a specific point on the dental crown and used only with a flat, rectangular archwire formed in a basic arch. Compared to the externally noticeable brackets and wires used in traditional orthodontic treatments, tooth-colored brackets and arch wires have been introduced to find aesthetic solutions especially for adults. However, these materials also offer a limited aesthetic. In order to overcome this problem in orthodontic patients with high aesthetic expectations, the clear aligners were born. Although clear aligners are a very aesthetic alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment, there are no definite findings in the literature regarding this method in terms of side effects of orthodontic treatment. In this study, it is aimed to compare the changes in periodontal status change, root resorption prevalence, pain and chewing performance of patients between traditional buccal orthodontic treatment and orthodontic treatment methods with clear aligners.
