Abstract (EN)

In this experimental study, the adsorption capacity of sustainable and cost-effective peach stone shell in the removal of Basic Yellow 51 (BY51) and Methylene Blue (MM) dyes from its aqueous solution has been examined in fixed bed column. The effects of initial dye concentration (20-60 mg / L), flow rate (5-10 mL / min) and adsorbent amount (1.5-2.5 g) on adsorption properties were determined. The experimental data showed that breakthrough curves were dependent on flow rate, initial dye concentration and adsorbent amount. High initial dye concentration, low flow rate and high bed height weredetermined to be the better conditions for maximum dye adsorption. To predict the breakthrough curves and to determine the characteristic parameters of the column dynamics useful for process design, Thomas model, Yoon–Nelson model and Adams-Bohart model were applied to experimental data.The results showed that peach stone shell is an effective adsorbent for the removal of BY51 and MM dyes from aqueous solutions in the column system, and that it could be used for the treatment of wastewater containing dyes.
