Abstract (EN)
Sabri Esat Siyavuşgil, one of the poets who made his name known with the Yedi Meşale (seven torches) group in the republican period Turkish literature, has remained one of the overshadowed figures in Turkish literature with his only poetry book, Odalar ve Sofalar (rooms and halls), and his status as a 'Yedi Meşaleci' poet. However, he has published numerous poems in various journals and magazines that reflect the socio-cultural and literary life of his time, along with dozens of articles that serve as a mirror to those times. Nevertheless, he abandoned poetry at a relatively early age, but never removed art from his life continued as a psychology professor. He continued to publish writings related to poetry, literature, and all aspects of art until the end of his life from his newspaper column where he made cultural evaluations. The value he attributed to poetry when explaining his professional choice is far beyond that of his contemporaries who saw poetry as a manifesto, a speech, or a tool for enlightenment. His poems open the doors to a different world, where houses, rooms, stairs, and even numerous objects speak in a subdued tone, stretch, and yawn. He conveyed the motion of the universe in a poetic style and with a breadth of subject that would create a difference in the understanding of his time. The poet's poems, the world he addresses in his poems, and the various articles he wrote on culture, art, and literature are the subjects of this study.
