Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aims: Understanding the pathways containing miRNAs and their connection with bile acids in gastric the progression of cancer will provide us with more information about gastric cancer pathogenesis. In this study and similar studies, a new marker can be discovered to identify a patient at high risk of having gastric cancer. Therefore, this project aimed to investigate the relationship between the expression on changes of miRNA in gastric cancer pathogenesis in patients with cholecystectomy and gastric cancer. In this study, 62 people, including at least 20 gastric cancer patients at least 22 cholecystectomy patients and 20 control cases, were included. Peripheral blood samples of the all cases were taken into EDTA tube. Results and conclusions: It was observed that miR-155-5p (p=0,006119) was significantly down-regulated in gastric cancer cases when compared with the control group statistically. There was no significant difference in miR-92a-1-5p, miR- 221 and miR- 222 compared to the control group (p≥0,05). It was observed that miR155-5p (p=0,000008) and miR-92a-1-5p (p=0,000217) were significantly down-regulated in cholecystectomy cases when compared with the control group statistically. There was no significant difference in miR-221 and miR-222 compared to the control group (p≥0,05). The significant down regulation of miR-155-5p in both gastric cancer and cholecystectomy cases compared to the control group suggests that cholecystectomy may predispose to gastric cancer. This study with 62 cases are not sufficient at this point and studies with more cases are needed in order to understand the underlying mechanisms and advance in diagnosis and treatment.
