Evaluation right ventricule in newborns up to the age of adolescence tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) normal values

Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) has recent been used for eveluating right ventricule systolic functions. For pediatric age group adequate referance values is not available. İn addition in Turkey enough TAPSE referance value does not exists. The purpose of the study is to determine the normal values of TAPSE, to generate z scores and percentiles and to determine the correlation of TAPSE with gender, body surface area and other ecocardiographic parameters in healthy patients between the ages of 1 day and 18 years. The study group was composed of children who were referred to our hospital with cardiac murmur and/or chest pain and without any cardiac pathology on detailed transtorasic ecocardiography. The number of participants was 607 and their age was between 0-18 years. their demographic findings and ecocardiographic results were recorded. The mean age was 6,29±5,31 years. the 55,85% was male and 44,15 % was female (n:268). The TAPSE pecentile was calculated according to age groups. The mean TAPSE score was 1,89±0,50 cm. In newborn period it was 0,96±0,08 cm and in 13-17 years it was 2,49± 0,29 cm the -3 SD TAPSE score was 0,80 cm and the +3 SD TAPSE score was 1,14 cm in newborn period. In adelosant group (13-17 years) -3 SD TAPSE score 1,77 cm and +3 SD TAPSE score was 3,16 cm. Mean RV S score was 11,00± 1,58 cm/s, mean RVE score was 13,91 ± 2,68 cm/s. mean RV A score was 10,98 ±2,05 cm/s and mean RVMPI was 0,29±0,02. TAPSE, RV S, RV E mean values don?t change statistically with gender but they have a positive correlation with age. otherwise RVMPI mean values don?t differ with age but differ between gender. In our study we calculated the mean TAPSE scores from newborn to 18 years old. Our hope is to facilitate the clinical use of body surface area score by differentiating it between age groups and according to body surface area, and calculating every 5,10,25,50,75,90,95 percentiles and -2 SD, -3 SD +2SD and+3SD scores foe each group.
