The effect of the Active Life Program developed based on the Health Promotion Model on the healthy lifestyle behaviors and life satisfaction of older women

Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The aim of this research is to examine the effect of the Active Living Program, developed based on the Health Promotion Model, on the healthy lifestyle behaviors and life satisfaction of older women. Materials and Methods: This study was designed according to a randomized controlled, single-blind pretest-posttest control group experimental model. The population of the research consisted of 313 elderly women aged 65 and over living in the Hititevler and Buharaevler Family Health Centers region within the municipal borders of Çorum Province. Power analysis was performed for the sample size and the research was completed with 94 elderly people (47 in the experimental group and 47 in the control group). For the pretest-posttest data of the study, a personal information form developed by the researcher in line with the literature, Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale II and Life Satisfaction Scale for the Elderly were used. After the pre-test, the Active Life Program was applied to the experimental group for 6 weeks, and the post-test was administered to all participants at the end of 6 weeks. The significance level was accepted as p<0.05. In order to conduct the research, ethics committee permission, institutional permission and consent from the participants were obtained. Results: It was found that the average value of the Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale II total and sub-dimensions score of the experimental group before the intervention increased compared to the post-intervention period, and in the intergroup evaluation, there was a statistically significant difference between the pretest-posttest score differences between the experimental group and the control group (p <0.05). ). In the study, it was found that the average value of the Life Satisfaction Scale for the Elderly total and sub-dimensions scores of the experimental group before the intervention increased compared to the post-intervention period, and in the intergroup evaluation, there was a statistically significant difference between the pretest-posttest score differences between the experimental group and the control group (p <0.05). In this study, it was determined that the average healthy lifestyle behaviors and life satisfaction scores of the elderly women in the experimental group, who were applied an active lifestyle program developed based on the health promotion model, increased before the intervention compared to after the intervention (p <0.05). Consequence: According to the results of this study conducted to improve the health of elderly women, it was observed that the healthy lifestyle behaviors and life satisfaction scale scores of the elderly women in the experimental group were higher after the intervention. It has been found that creating model-based nursing programs is effective on the healthy lifestyle behaviors and life satisfaction of older women.
