Determination of the relationship between mindfulness, self-efficacy, psychological resilience and substance abuse awareness of university students studying in health sciences

This descriptive study was conducted to determine the relationship between mindfulness, self-efficacy, psychological resilience levels, and substance addiction awareness among university students studying in the field of health sciences. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 605 students studying at Aksaray University Faculty of Health Sciences during the 2023–2024 academic year. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 software. Descriptive statistics were presented as mean (±), standard deviation, frequency, and percentage. A significance level of p<0.05 was accepted. Among the students, 324 were studying Nursing, 167 were in Emergency Aid and Disaster Management, and 114 were in Health Management. The mean score of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) was 56.39±12.08, the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) was 29.17±5.84, the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) was 18.64±4.44, and the Substance Addiction Awareness Scale (SAAS) total score was found to be 104.41±13.53. A positive, significant, and weak relationship was found between the MAAS and both the GSES and BRS (p<0.05). A positive, significant, and strong relationship was observed between the BRS and the GSES. In addition, a positive and weak relationship was detected between the SAAS and both the MAAS and GSES. It is important to implement psychoeducation programs aimed at improving students' mindfulness, self-efficacy, and psychological resilience. Furthermore, informative activities should be organized to increase substance addiction awareness.
