Violence against health employees: Health violence in Teki̇rdağ Provincial Health Institutions

Violance, which exist since the first day of human history, is the result of the application of power or might so to others or to himself/herself, and the threat of injury that ends with the possibility of injury or lost. In recent years, it has been observed that violent behaviors have become widespread and ordinary in all divisions of the society worldwide. Although violence is observed in all segments of the society, work place violence has become a public health problem that is constantly increasing and affecting many employees. Health institutions are one of the workplaces where workplace violence is frequently experienced. Recently, there have been many cases of verbal(shouting, insulting, threatening, humiliating speech, etc.) or physical violance(pushing, inlaying, knife attacking, damaging goods) in health sector in Turkey. In this context, this study has two main objectives. The first one is to raise awareness towards violance in health, the second one is to make suggestions for reducing violence in healt institutions by conducting analysis of White Code notifications on violence in health cases between the years 2016-2018 in Tekirdağ Provincial Health Directorate Institutions. The study results has showed that verbal violence is the most frequently experienced form of violence in health in Tekirdağ between the years 2016-2018, the utmost violence i health cases occured in Çerkezköy, doktors were subjected to violent behaviors more than the other health practitioners.
