The evaluation of the facility management from the perspectives of patients and healthcare professionals and a scale development study

Management is an art, yet it is not easy to perform smoothly. Hospitals are one of the most complex areas to manage. Hospitals, complex in their nature, are the places that operate 24 hours a day and render service by working in coordination with other departments. Managing these facilities is a complex and challenging task for healthcare administrators. In order to run complex hospital facilities efficiently, all the services in the hospital must be managed in a coordinated manner. The aim of this research is to help managers to evaluate the hospital as a whole, to create a sustainable hospital design where the services provided are managed in the best manner, and to develop a scale for the evaluation of hospital facility management. The population of the research consists of the employees and patients of the city hospital operating in the province of Elazig. The scale was applied to 528 patients and 361 employees were selected by simple random sampling method. SPSS 25 and AMOS 20 programs were employed to analyse the data. The data obtained from the study was analysed using item-total correlation test, upper-lower 27% difference test, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. According to the analysis of the scale applied to the patients, three dimensions have been identified as physical conditions, emergency and safety, and aesthetic conditions. These three factors accounted for 54.94% of the variance and the Cronbach Alpha value was found to be 0.956. According to the analysis of the scale applied to the employees, two dimensions have been identified as physical elements and social elements. These two factors accounted for 56.02% of the variance and the Cronbach Alpha value was found to be 0.960. The results showed that the scale is valid and reliable.
