Determination of attitudes of health workers towards violence against women (The example of Sultanbeyli)

Violence is a phenomenon that has existed since ancient times. Physical, psychological, economic and sexual violence are some of the types of use. The possibility of violence against women as well as against all walks of life. Women who are victims of violence can apply for certain recommendations to solve their problems. Health institutions come to the fore among the first places that women who are victims of violence apply. Victims of violence often first interact with healthcare professionals after negative events. For this reason, the approach of healthcare professionals to victims of violence is important. It is known that the approach of healthcare professionals to women who are victims of violence is generally related to their attitudes towards violence against women. It is believed that the more health workers show an attitude towards violence against women, the more positive their approach to women who are victims of violence will be. Our study is built on this basic idea. For this purpose, it is to determine the violence attitudes of health workers against women. The universe of the study is in the health rooms of Sultanbeyli State Hospital, and the sample is 197 health workers in the hospital examination. In order to determine the attitudes of health workers towards violence against women, a questionnaire with 18 questions and (İSKEBE) Violence Against Women Attitude Scale were used. Frequency tables were created, Anova, Chi-Square and T tests were performed in order to determine the differences between the variables obtained from the sources obtained by using IBM SPSS 22.00 software in statistical analysis. As a result of the research conduct, it was concluded that health workers have an attitude towards violence against women. However, more than half of the health workers participating in the study were informed about their training needs regarding violence against women. Based on this, health workers receiving training from experts in the relevant field and the allocation of a place to talk about violence against women in the training curriculum of health workers will contribute to the amount of knowledge and intensity levels of this occupational group.
