Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of health literacy level on cancer awareness level. The data of the research were obtained from people aged 18-65 years residing in Karatay-Meram-Selçuklu districts, which are the central districts of Konya province. In the research, data were obtained from 412 people. Health literacy scale and cancer information burden scale were used in the research. The data were analysed using SPSS programme. For the analysis of the demographic characteristics of the participants, analyses such as frequency and percentage distributions, mean and standard deviation, which are descriptive statistics, and independent sample t test and one-way variance analysis, which are parametric tests, were used to examine the relationship and degree of effect between the data of demographic characteristics and scales. Post hok Tukey test or post hok Games-Howell test results were evaluated to determine the differences in the analyses. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between the scales and their sub-dimensions. Simple linear regression analysis was applied to measure the effect of health literacy level on cancer awareness level. As a result, it was found that health literacy level was a significant and positive predictor of cancer awareness level.
