Administrators' sense of innovation in healthcare services: The case of Düzce

At present, with the increase of scientific and technological developments, competition criteria also varies. Companies are forced to change by the developments in technology and expectations and needs in market. Previously, the companies which were able to present to their consumers some factors such as quality, price and underselling were in the forefront position but today almost all companies are able to provide the same conditions. At this point, innovation comes out. The companies which can satisfy their consumers more than others by serving various products and facilities are going to be preferred. Considering variable factors in the area, making innovations has been a must. This change in recent years is a remarkable reality for also health sector in terms of sustainable achievement. As in all industries, hospitals also need to be innovative to provide sustainable competitiveness, to supply needs of patients, medical staff and stakeholders. In this regard, the aim of this research is to see the administrators‟ sense of innovation in health facilities in Düzce. For this reason, within the framework of qualitative research methods, 13 administrators working in public health services in Düzce were interviewed in death. The obtained data has been analysed with descriptive analysis technique. Research result has shown that administrators in health services don‟ t have enough information on innovation; activities carried out in healthcare services to make things easier, to reduce costs and to work more efficiently are not in the sense of innovation but for the requirements arising from conditions of competition and expectations. Also, it was shown that as the surveyed services are public institutions and registered by legal legislations, administrators working in these services are hindered to work efficiçently and make the decisions.
