Evaluation of social anxiety disorder in patients with Sagliker Syndrome

Abstract (EN)

Evaluation of Social Anxiety Disorder In Patients With Saglıker Syndrome Objective: Chronic Renal Disease (CRD) is caused by particularly diabetes (DM) and hypertension (HT). It can lead to a variety of problems regarding to morbidity and mortality. If not treated properly Seconder Hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is going to be inevitable. This condition is a long duration that effects especially the bones of the body. Recent studies have shown that some patients with both CRD and SHPT have a spesific physical presentation with short stature, and severe face and cranial bone deformities, which was named ' The Sagliker Syndrome' (SS) . It is found that patients with SS have some psychological problems as other chronic patients. And also it is known that problems with face and body appearance affect the psychology of the patients negatively. In our study, we planned to assess the social anxiety levels of SS patients for self esteem and the position in the general population. Material and Method: In our study % 80.2 of patients were male, % 19.8 were female. There was no statistical difference regarding to age between groups. The study was completed by physicians of Family Medicine, Psychiatry and Nephrology departments, by home and outpatient clinical visits. 13 SS patients were visited at their homes. 39 CRD patients and 39 healthy cases in the control group were seen at the outpatient clinics. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Liebowitz scales were used to evaluate the patients. Results: The educational status of SS patients were significantly lower and thoughts of suicide were stronger. (p<0.05) The presence of Social Anxiety Disorder was found in SS patients. CRD patients also manifested high Liebowitz score nevertheless it was still higher in SS group. Conclusion: Social anxiety disorder was found in CRD and SS patients by Liebowitz scale. Social Anxiety levels were higher in SS group. These unique cases must be verified and treated. Key Words:Sagliker Syndrome, Chronic Renal Disease, Social Anxiety Disorder, Liebowitz Scale.
