Abstract (EN)
Capacity and strength of inspiratory muscles affect the quality of daily life. Inspiratory muscle training can reduce the possible adverse conditions due to the weakness of inspiratory muscles. The aim of this study to evaluate the effects of inspiratory muscle training with and without device on lung volume and capacity in healthy men. Thirty-four healthy men were participated the study. Participants were divided into two groups: the training group with device (n=18; age=19,50±0,85 years; body weight=74,1±8,91 kg and height=177,72±4,97 cm) and pursed lips training group (n=16; age=19,93±1,28 years; body weight=73,11±11,31 kg and height=177±6,95 cm). Powerbreathe Classic HR devices (POWERbreathe International Ltd, United Kingdom) were used for respiratory muscle training. The training loads determined by powerbreath K5 device (POWERbreathe International Ltd, United Kingdom). The lung volume and capacities were measured by a spirometer. After six weeks training period there is no significant difference between two grups on forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume, maximum voluntary ventilation, peak ventilator flow rate, forced expiratory flow at 25-75% of the pulmonary volume (FEF25-75), forced expiratory flow at 25% of the pulmonary volume (FEF25), forced expiratory flow at 50% of the pulmonary volume (FEF50), forced expiratory flow at 75% of the pulmonary volume (FEF75), pressure and power. Power and pressure of the training group with device were increased at the end of training period (p<0,05). In the pursed lips training group FEV1, MVV, FEF 25-75, FEF 75 ve FEF 50 parameters were decreased (p=0,05). Our results indicate that neither inspiratory muscle training device nor pursed lips training does not promote the increases in lung volume and capacity.
