Abstract (EN)

AİM: Obesity is an increasing public health problem in all age groups. One of the most important problems accompanying obesity is glucose metabolism disorder. In this study, it was aimed to investigate role of asprosin, neudesin, r-spondin 1, adropin levels in the diagnosis and follow-up of obesity and prediabetes. MATERİALS AND METHODS: The study was done with 180 individuals aged 12-18 years. Individuals were divided into three groups as control, obese, prediabetic obese according to their body mass index and glucose metabolism. Levels of serum adropin, r-spondin 1, asprosin and neudesin from venous blood samples of individuals were studied with ELISA method. In addition, simultaneous glucose, insulin, c-peptide, HbA1c, HOMA-IR and HOMA-Beta values were analyzed. The cut-off values of the parameters in predicting obesity and prediabetes were determined with ROC analysis. Also, the independent effects of parameters in predicting obesity and prediabetes were investigated with logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: C-peptide and HOMA-Beta levels were found to be higher in the prediabetic obese and obese groups compared to the control group, while adropin and asprosin levels were found to be higher in the prediabetic obese group compared to both the obese and control groups (p<0.05). The cut-off values of adropin and asprosin levels were calculated respectively 121,60 ng/L and 14,84 ng/mL to predict prediabetes. The cut-off values of HOMA-IR, HOMA-Beta and c-peptide levels were calculated respectively 3,60, 157,50 and 0,55 ng/mL to predict obesity. CONCLUSION: Childhood obesity that continues with complications in adult life is a serious health problem. It is important to follow up and evaluate the prediabetic situation in obese individuals. In our study, serum asprosin and adropin levels were higher in prediabetic obese children compared to obese and control groups; we think that these molecules can be helpful to predict prediabetes in obese children.
