Isolation of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius from healthy and dogs with otitis externa and determination of antibiotic resistance

Abstract (EN)

Staphylococci are widely found in nature, skin and mucous membrane of human and animals. They are opportunistic pathogens. They are responsible for various infections of animals and human. Staphilococcus pseudintermedius has almost same characteristics with Staphilococci. Especially they are found in the ear canal of dogs. Staphilococcus pseudintermedius is responsible for most of pyoderma and otitis externa cases in dogs. Spreading from dogs and other animals to human is presented. It has been isolated from serious hospital infections rarely. Because of increasing metisilin resistance in recent years, it is an important bacteria for public health. In our study, it is aimed to detect isolation and identification of S. pseudintermedius from ear of dogs, totally 100, in different breed, age and sex, healthy and considered with otitis externa, and aimed to detect methicillin, mupirocin and vancomycin resistance. PCR-RFLP method is applied to isolated Staphylococci and 6 S. pseudintermedius strains identified from 19 koagulaz positive Staphylococci strains. Antibiotic sensitivity test applied to the strains which are S. pseudintermedius positive. We found vancomycin resistance but methicillin and mupirocin resistance. It has been conclusived that S. pseudintermedius is found in especially healty dogs.
