Abstract (EN)
107SUMMARYThe aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of cystatin C, IL-1β and TNF-α levels in total saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) insystemically healthy 35 children between 11-16 years old consisting of 10periodontally healthy children and 25 children with gingivitis. Plaque index, gingival index, gingival bleeding index, probing depth, attachment loss was takenfrom children in both groups. After sampling, biochemical analyzes were carriedout and the results were evaluated statistically.Cystatin C levels in total saliva and GCF were higher inperiodontally healthy children than children with gingivitis (p>0.05). In childrenwith gingivitis, cystatin C concentration in GCF was higher than periodontallyhealthy children (p>0.05). Total saliva TNF-α levels were higher in periodontallyhealthy children than children with gingivitis (p= 0.028). TNF-α levels andconcentration in GCF were higher in children with gingivitis than periodontallyhealthy children (p>0.05). Total saliva and GCF IL-1β levels and IL-1βconcentration were higher in children with gingivitis than periodontally healthychildren (p>0.05). In whole mouth and in sample site plaque index, gingivalindex, gingival bleeding index, probing depth and attachment loss values werehigher in children with gingivitis than periodontally healthy children (p<0.05).108In our study, in healthy children and children with gingivitis alterations inthe levels of cystatin C, IL-1β and TNF-α initiated during stages of gingivitis andrelated more directly to the inflammatory response rather than dictating adestructive process and these mediators showed similar properties with themediators seen in adults.
