The Culuruyar Nurgun Bootur Epos of the Sakha (Yakut) Turks

The Sakha (Yakut) Turks live in the Sakha (Yakut) Republic. Their country is in northeast Siberia, which has one of the harshest climatic conditions on Earth. This Turkish tribe, who have kept their Kamlık religion (the ancient religion of the Turks), traditions and customs from the effects of foreign cultures for many years, have a rich oral literature. One of the most important genres of this oral literature in terms of form and content are the eposes called olonkho. Olonkho is the most important entertainment tool of the long and cold winter nights of the Sakhas. The cultural codes of this Turkish tribe, which have been formed throughout the centuries are also hidden in this genre.The term olonkho in the Sakha oral culture corresponds to epos in the Anatolian region and olonkhohut corresponds to the epos narrator. In our study, we have studied Culuruyar Nurgun Bootur, which is one of the best known examples of this oral literature genre olonkho which is not known in detail in our country. This olonkho whose main hero is ?Nurgun Bootur? has been improvised as a combination of verse-prose. Among the several variants of the Culuruyar Nurgun Bootur the most widely known is the one that belongs to K. G. Orosin.In our thesis, we have worked on the K. G. Orosin variant of Culuruyar Nurgun Bootur. First of all, we transcribed this text into the Latin alphabet from the Cyril alphabet and then we translated it into Turkish. We paid special care to keep to the original text while translating. Our study consists of four parts. The first part consists of the tradition of olonkho narration, the second part focuses on the place of Culuruyar Nurgun Bootur in this tradition, the third part contains the motifs of the olonkho and the fourth part contains the text and the translation. To the end of our study we have added the general index of the original text in the Sakha language and the appendix.
