Saip Tuna was born in 1904 in İstanbul, he graduated the Academy of Fine Arts and continued his trainings abroad. The artist who settled in Ankara and worked as a teacher at Ismet Pasha Maiden Institute, passed away in Ankara in 1974. The strong pattern conception of the artist that gave art pieces of still life style, nude, landscape and portrait is clearly visible. The artist sticks out with his portraits and he personates the figures with a high realistic quality with facial expressions. Saip Tuna took important people who lived in the political and cultural atmosphere of that period in Turkey as subject of his paintings. As Turkey?s foreign policies and internal political issues of the period is considered, people who are chosen as subjects of drawings are mostly the ones that are in political agenda of the period and either a foreigner in relation with Turkey or people that have military, bureaucratic, religious characteristics and are intellectuals in the political structure of the era. Saip Tuna growed in the same environment with the ?Independents? had trainings in the same studios with them but did not produce in the similar conception. Tuna, resisted modern painting and followed Çallı School that is in impressionist style and also impressionism as well as realism affects are seen in his arts.In this study, the restoration, that is done on five highly affected drawing with restoration problems which also includes the oil painting of Ataturk dated to 1935, is discussed with the applications.
