Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in 2017-2018 in the district center of Sapanca and some villages of Sakarya province to identify hopefull genotypes grown from seed and to reveal the phenological and pomological characteristics of these genotypes. Within the scope of the study, approximately 400 walnut trees were visited and examined and nut samples were taken from 101 trees. As a result of the pomological evaluations and analyzes, 29 genottypes with superior characteristics were chosen as hopefulls. Of the selected genottypes; nut weights 10,89-19,07 g, kernel weights 5,01-9,43 g, kernel percentage ranged between 43,01-59,39% and shell thcikness ranged between 0,98-1,99mm. In addition, in visual analysis of nuts; nut crust color was light in 55.17%, medium in 37.93% and dark in 6.89%; interior color was evaluated as light yellow in 48.27%, dark yellow in 31.03% and brown in 20.68%.In the phenological observations, it was determined that 7 of the selected types show homogamous, 3 of the have protogynous and14 of them have protandrous flowering. In line with these data, it is believed that there is a very rich population for walnut selection studies in Sapanca district and that the selection studies should be continued with other stages by taking these data into consideration.
