Traditional house architecture in Hendek-Sakarya

The Turks which taking from Central Asia their cultural and architectural heritage,have develop edarchite ctural structure the called ?Turkish House?, by combined with their own environmental and cultural environment atmosp here.The first settlements of the Turks which do not have a serious phenomenon of urbanization until they come in Anatolia has been established in Anatolia.Hendek/Handak is an Arabian word which means the hole digged around the city or the castles to prevent the entrance. Also the hole made in a field to make water equally delivered is called Hendek.A very small part of Hendek is connected to Black Sea Region and the bigger part is connected to Marmara Region.It is legally a town of Sakarya. Firstly in 1907 Hendek was a municipality then in 1926 established as a town part of Kocaeli and finally in 1954 integrated into Adapazarı ,the central city of Sakarya.The part of catalouge insists of the decorations,plans of at least ten houses reflecting the specialities of traditions of Turkish houses in Hendek. Besides these the adresses,photographs, owner information,sizes and drawings of the houses are gathered in a questionnaire which is formed for each house. The historical houses of Hendek are located in different streets and parts of the town. The location areas of houses are the initial places of the houses. The building materials used fort he houses are stone and wood. Most of the historical houses of Hendek are two-floored,near to the streets.Generally the houses are planned within the garden. Also there are houses without garden.The houses are corresponded to traditional Turkish houses in Sapanca,Geyve and Taraklı. Plans, drawings and photograhs are given at the addition part.
