Abstract (EN)
In order to understand the society of the Republic of Turkey and to provide continuous self-improvement, the social change movement that emerged with the transition from reign to republic has been examined in terms of widespread education. The institutions and their activities which had been launched by Ataturk in order to reduce the difficulties for society against the new situation and to move the Republic of Turkey forward were examined. Literature review for these widespread education institutions was conducted and a document review model was used which is one of qualitative research methods. Thus, institutions were looked at through the window of social change and the effects of institutions on social change were investigated. Our thesis consists of six parts. The purpose, importance, problem status, limitations of the research are stated in the first part. In the second part of our thesis, the story of change of the Republic of Turkey in related time period is told. In the section, the concept of social change is defined and examined as specific to the Republic of Turkey. In the third chapter where the concept of social change is associated with education, widespread education is emphasized and explained. In the fourth chapter, the route drawn towards to modernization by Atatürk principles and revolutions are verbalized in order to convey the purpose of the mass education institutions being examined. Thus, the principles on which the institutions will be examined for the impact of social change are explained In the fifth chapter, it is started to examine mentioned mass education institutions and their activities are studied from the point of social change movement. In the context of the subject; Natioanal Schools, Turkish Historical Institution, Turkish Language Institution and Community Home studies have been investigated. As a result, in the sixth chapter, the Ataturk period was concluded that the common educational institutions had a positive effect on the social change of the period. Regarding the result reached, it was emphasized that social change is an ongoing process today and that common educational institutions should not be considered only as hobby houses. Some suggestions have been made regarding this issue, indicating the importance of widespread education.
