Antibacterial effect of salvia syriaca L., salvia bracteata banks & sol. and tagetes erecta L. plant extracts against some plant pathogeneic bacteria

This study includes Salvia syriaca L., Salvia bracteata Banks & Sol. and Tagetes erecta L. extracts against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato (Pst), which causes tomato black spot disease, tomato bacterial canker and wilt disease agent Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm) and Xanthomonas euvesicatoria (Xe), which causes bacterial leaf spot disease of pepper and tomato. The study was conducted as in vitro-Petri experiment and in vivo experiment. In in vitro studies, different doses of plant extracts were tested against plant pathogenic bacteria, and the extracts were mixed into the medium after autoclaving. In the evaluations made according to bacterial growth in the media, it was seen that different doses of plant extracts had different effects on pathogens and the effectiveness increased as the dose increased. After these trials, an in vivo trial was established with the determined doses and the effects of the extracts on diseases were examined. Pathogen inoculation was made on plants to which plant extracts were applied by spraying. In pathogen inoculation, Pst was applied to the tomato plant by spraying, Cmm was administered by injection method, and Xe was administered to the pepper plant by spraying. In the evaluation made according to the counting of infected and healthy plants, it was seen that S. bracteata prevented the development of tomato bacterial cancer and wilt disease. Since Pst and Xe pathogens could not be re-isolated during the isolations, the disease suppression effect of plant extracts on plants could not be determined. As a result, this study, in which biological control is considered as an alternative to chemical control, is a preliminary study for future researchers.
