Human in the novels by Sâmiha Ayverdi

Sâmiha Ayverdi builds on the intellectual basis of her novels with mysticism and references from Muslim-Turkish culture. Ayverdi, who put emphasis on the Muslim-Turkish culture in her novels, along with the idea of sufistic development, such as defining human's position and his/her identity in the society, brought a concrete form to the description of human through the novel characters' state and manners. In this study, "human concept" and the reflections of this concept on the life of the people in the novels by Sâmiha Ayverdi are discussed. At the beginning of the study, it is included the literary personality of Sâmiha Ayverdi, which constitutes the intellectual basis of her novel and the framework of our research. In the first part, in Ayverdi's novels, the inner world and the existence inquiries related to a sufistic perspective of human are examined; In the second part, the relationship between human and environment in the context of identity building is discussed; In the third section, the positive and negative reflections of the relationship between the inner world of the human and the environment are determined. In the last part, the study involves a general overview of Ayverdi's description of human concept. Keywords: Novel, Existence, Identity, Sufism, Individual, Society
