Samsun-Vezirköprü region weawings

Vezirköprü region weaving constitutes an important link of our cultural heritage and traditional weaving. Although there is such a rich weaving culture, it is seen that the weavings in the region have not been researched and introduced in all aspects. Our study aims to examine and introduce the weaving culture and rich weaving tradition in the region. In this context, it is aimed to research, examine and record the history of weaving in Vezirköprü region, the materials, technical and technological features, embroidery, pattern and composition features and artistic features of the weavings and to ensure their promotion. Within the scope of the study, field research was carried out in Vezirköprü region and local weavings were identified and these weavings were examined comprehensively. A total of 162 weavings, including 14 carpets, 104 plain weavings, 5 multiplier weavings and 38 cloth weavings, were identified during the field survey. Their materials, weaving techniques, embroidery and composition features were examined comprehensively. Information about weaving tools and equipment was also obtained. In addition, the analyzed weavings were photographed and recorded. The weavings were grouped as carpet weavings, plain weavings, çarpana and cloth weavings and catalogs of the weavings were created. The catalogs include technical information about the weavings as well as introductory information about the weaving. In the evaluation and comparison section of the study; weaving types, materials used in weavings, colors in weavings, dimensions of weavings, locations and current status of weavings, ornamentation and composition features in weavings, embroideries in weavings, weaving techniques, dates of weavings, quality in weavings, weaving places and weavers. In line with the information obtained, the characteristics of the weavings of the Vezirköprü region are stated and the place and importance of the weavings of the Vezirköprü region in the Turkish weaving art are emphasized. As a result, Vezirköprü region weavings constitute an important part of our cultural heritage with their material properties, weaving techniques, unique artistic and traditional features. Within the scope of our study, it has been tried to record these weavings, to reveal and promote their originality by examining them technically and artistically. In addition, the current situation is also evaluated and suggestions for the future are given.
